The way TV is set up nowadays you can watch sports all day, every
day. Sports center, college sports, and ESPN all you want on your TV,
and you just need the right set for the job. My experience and research
say go with Plasma. The great debate is LED-LCD vs. Plasma. OLED
is new, and might be the best way to go if it fits your budget. Plasma
is best with sports because you don't have to worry about the screen
freezing or refresher rates.
My vote is with Plasma if your main focus is sports. One main factor is lighting.
Investing in dark curtains can be a good idea if your goal is to enjoy a
lot of sports. So you get the best picture quality you might want to
play with the picture contrast, it's a very important feature that controls dark and light levels.
I've chatted with people in Las Vegas where they gamble on sports and take watching sports seriously and the people I spoke with agree, Plasma is best if you can't afford OLED. The Sales Associates at the stores and the people in the Sports Bars agree that Plasma is the way to go.
I also suggest using a high quality surround sound system to get that in the stadium feel. Something in the Bose line that fits your price range might be best, it's what I have and it really makes me feel like I'm at the game. Go with professional installation that way everything gets installed correctly and possibly with a warranty. Like most of us sports fans your going to want to watch two or more games at once so make sure you pick a set with the PIP feature that way you really won't miss much.
